‘Fertile Ground’ Painting Featured in Truly Magazine’s Depth Issue

In May, 2024, my original acrylic painting with genuine gold leaf, "Fertile Ground," was published with Truly in their newest issue, "Depth." The painting was created for the article by Jen Allee, "Are You Listening? And What Happens When You Don't."

Jen Allee wrote the article based on the parable from Luke 8:5-15 - the story of four different types of soil. Jen writes, "Listening is key. A quick glance at the explanation of the parable reveals Jesus using the word her multiple times. In all four types of soil, the person hears the Word of God first. The soil, therefore, is a byproduct of how well someone listens. If one listens well, the result is a faith that sprouts, thrives, and produces fruit. If one doesn't listen well, that person's belief is squelched by the troubles, temptations, and riches of this life. And if someone really doesn't listen well, true belief never even has a chance to take root."

I titled my painting, "Fertile Ground" (12" × 16" acrylic abstract painting on traditional canvas with genuine gold leaf) to align with the article's message. In this painting, I sought to capture the essence of soft, willing, and receptive soil—ready to listen to and receive the Word of God, becoming fertile ground to grow seeds and bear much fruit. The golden hues symbolize the Word of God penetrating the soil, enriching it, and making it even more fertile, useful, and fruitful.

May this painting and its message bless and encourage the ground of your heart.
